A'Level pupil fined for possession of cannabis

A 19-year-ld A'Level pupil was fined $150 for smoking cannabis by Guruve magistrate today.
Steven Nhemachena (19) pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis.
Public prosecutor Mr Albert Mazhindu told the court that on 29 August 2017 Nhemachena was caught by police smoking cannabis at Eureka mine houses in Guruve.
He was searched and subsequently found with a satchel full of cannabis twists.
On mitigation the accused begged the courts to spare him a custodial sentence so that he continues with school work.
"Your worship I am a lower sixth at a college in Harare, I am appealing to the court to fine me and give me time to pay since l am also into brick molding ," begged Nhemachena.
Guruve resident magistrate Shingirai Mutiro gave in to his plea and fine him $150 payable by 29 September and an additional five years suspended on good behavior for five years.
