Mugabe officially opens 5th session of 8th Parliament

President Robert Mugabe has officially opened the fifth session of the eighth Parliament in Harare today.

In his speech at the official opening ceremony, President Mugabe said the August House must put emphasis on the remaining 30 pieces of legislation to be aligned to the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

He said some of the bills to be tabled before the August House include the Labour Law amendment bill to facilitate job security and the Land Developers bill so as to bring sanity to the work of land developers as well as the realignment of the defence forces act.

President Mugabe however bemoaned the continued loss of lives through road traffic accidents and said a Motor Vehicle Accident Fund is on the cards as a measure of relief to survivors and families of victims.

He also appealed to motorists and other road users to play their part in curbing accidents.

"Disaster Risk management bill and the Labour Law Amendment bill will be brought before the house in view of natural disasters caused by climate change and to facilitate job security," says the President.

President Mugabe urged the finalisation and Parly's scrutiny of the Mines and Mining bill in order to ensure successful implementation of value addition and beneficiation.

Mugabe said the country succeeded in regaining its food sufficiency owing to command agriculture and Presidential inputs scheme, and said work is underway to invest more resources towards water harvesting projects and irrigation development.

The President said the Child Justice Bill which provides for a dedicated child justice system will be brought before the House.
