Mine worker drowns during swimming competition

Swimming competition ended tragic when a miner drowned in a river on Saturday in Mazowe.
Sources privy to the development allege a Mazowe mine employee Mathias Mandikisi had gone for swimming competition with colleagues at a local river in Jumbo.
"The deceased had gone for a swimming competition which subsequently took his life after he drowned."
It is further alleged that Mandikisi drowned on Saturday but his body was retrieved on Sunday after a thorough search by residents.
"When he drowned he spent 24 hours under water only to be retrieved the following day, since he could not be found the day he drowned, "said the source.
A relative to Mandikisi who spoke to Bulawayo24.com said the police were called after the body had been retrieved and he has since been laid to rest today.
"After residents retrieved the body we called the police to attend the scene after residents retrieved it.
He has been laid to rest today in (Jumbo ) Mazowe mine.
