A 27-year-old man from Bwazi, Monozi village under chief Masunga, was convicted of killing an elephant worth $50 000 at Guruve magistrate court today.

Godsave Machisa (27) pleaded guilty to hunting and killing a male elephant without a valid license.

Guruve magistrate Artwel Sanyatwe remanded him in custody to tomorrow for sentencing.

Public prosecutor Ms Jane Mwanandimai told the court that sometime in July Machisa hunted and killed an elephant using a 303 rifle serial number 18235.

A team of game rangers got a tip off on 10 September of the killed elephant and proceeded to Machisi's homestead who admitted to the charge leading to his arrest.

In a related case Enackie Chipara (56) appeared before Guruve magistrate today charged for contravening Section 28 of the Firearm Act 10.09 (fail to safe guard a fire arm)

Chipara pleaded not guilt and was remanded to 22 September for continuation of trial.

Allegations are that Chipara offered his 303 rifle to Machisi who went to Tututu village Mushumbi in the bush where he hunted and killed an elephant.
