MDC-99 secretary for information Aaron Muzungu has been arrested for contravening immigration laws. Muzungu, who is accused of assisting a South African woman gain entry into Zimbabwe with the help of her party president Mr Job Sikhala, appeared in court yesterday.
The woman - Sharon Theresa Bester - told the court that they were dealing in diamonds when they were arrested in Harare.
Muzungu yesterday appeared before Harare Mr Tendai Mahwe charged with contravening sections of the Immigration Act.
Bester who is in custody said they were arrested in town while Muzungu was selling diamonds.
"He (Muzungu) asked me to accompany him to town were he had some business to do. I realised that he was dealing in diamonds and the buyer he brought for the diamond seller happened to be a detective undercover. The detective attached to CID Minerals asked for my documents which I did not have, leading to our arrest," she said.
Muzungu pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case continues on Monday.
Prosecutor Ms Patience Chimusaru alleges that on an unknown date but in July last year, Muzungu assisted Bester to enter Zimbabwe through Beitbridge Border Post without travelling documents.
Muzungu in the company of Sikhala visited Okki Voschenck at his house in South Africa and they met Bester.
Sikhala then offered Bester employment as his personal assistant at the MDC-99 offices.
Muzungu, Bester, Sikhala and Voschenck proceeded to Beitbridge Border Post where Bester remained in the car while they negotiated with immigration officers.
They were aboard a Mercedes Benz E230 registration number AA14198.
They successfully skipped the border and she was taken to Sikhala's house in Chitungwiza.
