Police bash hookers with baton sticks

TWO SELF-CONFESSED hookers plying their trade at a busy brothel along Hebert Chitepo Avenue were left with bruises all over their bodies after they were severely thumped with batons by 'thugs' aboard a police van last Saturday night.
The alleged attackers are said to have demanded cash from the 'thigh vendors' before they sped off in a police van (registration number given) after searching them.
H-Metro has been informed that one the alleged thugs believed to be a regular at the brothel had been advised that the hookers had made a killing on the day in question.
The matter was reported at Harare Central police station under case No. IR No. 011998 at around 10pm on the same day. The vehicle used was said to have been later found parked and unattended at Five Avenue shopping centre, revealed our sources.
Flora, who sustained bruises on her bums and all over her body, had no kind words for the thugs she suspects were police officers off duty.
"What we heard at the police station is that they are police officers who were off duty but used the police vehicle to threaten us," said Flora.
"I am really in serious pain that I have ever experienced all my life. About eight of them came aboard the vehicle but only two entered our room before demanding cash that we had made that day. It was true that we had a good day and I got US$200 within a short space of time and I suspect that these thugs were tipped off by one of our friends here.
"Fortunately I had already sent the money home to Chitungwiza because they turned the bed up side down in search of the money but they found nothing. We ended up bribing them with US$20 each after they whipped us until their batons broke. I am sure we are being trailed by a bad spell because we are the same people who were raped by soldiers last year.
"Police must take us to the cells because we are tired of being asked for free sex or US$5 bribes each time we are arrested for loitering. They are now arresting us in our rooms for loitering and we wonder what kind of loitering that is," she said.
Anita, who sustained bruises on her left hand with cuts from the batons, told H-Metro that they were given a police report to enable them to seek medication.
"We never visited the clinic because month end is the only time we make a big killing," said Anita.
"We were unhappy with the way we were treated by officers who recorded our statements for they kept asking if we were serious of reporting against police officers. They asked us to return but because of their questions we were afraid but now we are tired of being abused by uniformed officers. One day I was shown a police ID after a guy had finished having sex with me as I demanded my cash for the service," said Anita. Efforts to get a comment from police proved fruitless as it was after business hours.
