Sex addict begs for non-custodial sentence

A BULAWAYO man yesterday begged a court for a non-custodial sentence because he's a sex addict.
During mitigation, Thulani Moyo (29) said he could not live without engaging in sex for at least three times a day so being in jail would kill him.
"Your worship, if I am put in prison then I will not manage to indulge in sex every day. I cannot live without sex so may the court consider giving me a non-custodial sentence," he pleaded.
Asked where he gets the sex from since he is not married, Moyo said he hires sex workers in town or Cowdray Park suburb.
He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry charges before Western Commonage magistrate Lungile Ncube and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment. Three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour while nine months are effective.
The court heard that Moyo, who is of no fixed abode, stole property worth more than $1 440 from a former neighbour who took him in when he was homeless and spent the spoils on alcohol.
Asked why he committed the crime, he said it was the work of the devil.
"It was the devil, Your Worship. I did not know what I was doing at the time and I didn't mean to steal from the complainant. I ask for forgiveness," Moyo said.
Prosecuting, Petros Shoko said Moyo stole property worth $1 440 from Alfred Ntini who had offered him a place to stay when he was stranded.
"Between August 13 and September 8 at number 565 Nketa 6, the accused forcibly opened the door and stole the complainant's property. He went away unnoticed," he said.
Shoko said property worth $1 260 was recovered by the police.
In a warned and cautioned statement, Ntini said it was the second time Moyo, who is his former neighbour's son, was stealing from him.
He first stole in August and relocated to an unknown place. He returned, asked for forgiveness and was forgiven, only for him to commit the same crime in September.
