Two Guruve police officers were convicted and sent to jail for AWOL and performing duty in an improper manner, Bulawayo24.com has leant.

Presiding officer Superintendent Tonderai Chiyangwa convicted constable Tonderai Kugara to 5 days imprisonment for performing police duties in an improper manner that is not sending dockets to court after full trial.

An additional 14 days were for AWOL, that is absenting him self from duty without an official leave.

However, Kugara bemoaned. the disciplinary action and told this reporter that his disciplinary was due to hostility since he owns a Mazda 3 that most of his superiors are failing to purchase.

"My superiors are just jealous of me because l own a neat Mazda 3 they cannot afford to buy so they have levelled a string of allegations against me hence l am resigning after the disciplinary.

Kugara has since sent his resignation letter to police general headquarters and it has been approved hence after his jail term he will be a civilian.

In a related case a constable at Mushumbi base Dzotizei was sentenced to 24 days in prison for AWOL after a full trial.

He was on a final warning hence chances are high that after his service he will be sacked from the force.
