People's Democratic Party Midlands South Province have congratulated the new interim leader Licia Matibenga for assuming the Presidency after the faction led by Godern Moyo purportedly fired the party leader Tendai Biti and his strong men and women over the arbitrary signing of the MDC Alliance.

Midlands said they were congratulating Her Excellence Madam President Lucia Matibenga on her elevation to the position of President of the People's Democratic Party.

"Matibenga's elevation is the greatest democratic action ever taken in the political history of Zimbabwe. As PDP Midlands South, we stand guided by the Party's constitution that we will remain loyal to the principles of social democracy. We believe that whatever is done for the people, should be done with the people," said the party structure!

"The party's resolution of the 28 September 2017 General Council was a milestone in the orange family as it reassures the people of Zimbabwe of how committed we are to the values of social democracy in line with our constitution. The resolutions of just ended General Council (28/09/2017) were not reached out of hatred of anyone, regionalism, tribalism or anti-convergence, as some comrades would want to put it."

The structure said they were born out of disciplined cadreship and loyalty to their party's founding principles.

"As the PDP Midlands South Provincial Assembly we want to make it clear that no one was fired from the party but the General Council just acknowledged the departure of some comrades from the orange family. As a Province, we hope that the comrades who left the party for the MDC Alliance will sobber up some day and get to appreciate the principles of social democracy which should always underpin our actions/behaviour. The rebellious comrades will always be welcome back to the orange family, should they show sufficient cause for readmission. PDP Midlands South Provincial Assembly congratulates our patriotic leadership for the courage to be different and commitment to build a powerful political institution," said the structure.
