The Bulawayo City Council is embarking on a $3,1 million roads rehabilitation programme under the Rapid Response Approach (RRA), an exercise targeted at improving service delivery in the shortest possible time.

This came after various complaints from residents about inaccessible roads that were in a sorry state, owing to excessive rains in the last rainy season.

BCC public relations officer Bongiwe Ngwenya said a 16km reseal of roads was being done and overlays would be done on a number of main roads.

"About 16km of reseals will be done on sections of Mqhamulazwe, Masiye Phambili, Hyde Park roads and overlays will be done on sections of Masiye Phambili, Nketa Drive and Hyde Park roads," she said.

The city will be engaging in other projects under RRA which will compliment other services such as service level bench marking, ease of doing business to ensure Bulawayo's development through the provision of sound infrastructure and provision of excellent services.

RRA is a national goal of spearheading development projects under the government's economic blueprint, ZimAsset.

It was launched in the city last month and is expected to run until December 5.

The programme also encompasses other areas such as water reticulation and sewerage systems.
