A Silobela man was allegedly struck with an axe on the head after he tried to restrain two illegal miners from fighting in a beer brawl.

Philmone Moyo, Parker village 2 headman, alleges that Savy Maphosa was axed by Nqobela Moyo after he tried to restrain Nkosi Mhlanga and Tafadzwa Mapfumo who were fighting over a 2 liter bottle of Super Chibuku.

"I can confirm that yesterday night Maphosa was axed in the head by Moyo after he tried to restrain two illegal miners who were fighting over opaque beer, he said.

"Moyo sustained a deep cut and he ran around for a few minutes as if he was mentally challenged before falling on the ground."

"Many people thought he was dead and his assailant fled."

The village head also said Moyo bled profusely before he was rushed to Silobela General hospital.

Meanwhile, cases of violence are mushrooming in Silobela and village head Moyo is calling for the police to tighten their security.

"People always fight here and a lot of blood is being lost, we urge the police to tighten their security by conducting several patrols in the area to curb the trend."
