Beitbridge - Harare highway dualisation to go into full swing

The long awaited dualisation of the Beitbridge - Harare highway will now go into full swing after government granted Geiger International clearance to start importing road construction equipment free of duty.
While surveyors and engineers are already on the ground conducting the mapping of the highway, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Dr Joram Gumbo confirmed the exemption order, saying Geiger International has also indicated its preparedness to kick-start physical construction as soon as heavy duty equipment, the bulk of which was stuck in Zambia, arrives.
So far, the construction of the trunk road has already been subdivided into six segments with some physical action now visible between Beitbridge and Masvingo.
The clearance for the importation of the road construction equipment will put to rest false reports that the dualisation was shelved.
Several local companies have already been given tenders to do the surveillance, while more locals are expected to benefit under the 40 percent stake set aside for the indigenous.
