Morgan Tsvangirai, the Movement for Democratic Change leader, has lifted the suspension party deputy treasurer Charlton Hwende who had been sanctioned for apparently condoning violence in the opposition movement.

Hwende was suspended over his alleged links to the bloody intra-party clashes in Bulawayo. Tabitha Khumalo and Hwende, who are both members of the party's standing committee, were suspended alongside three youth members believed to be involved in the skirmishes, where Tsvangirai's deputy Thokozani Khupe, chairperson, Lovemore Moyo and deputy organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe were assaulted.

Bhebhe, Khupe and Moyo were assaulted by youths sent from Harare after they snubbed the MDC Alliance launch in the capital on August 5.

Tabitha Khumalo's suspension was lifted on 25 August 2017.

Hwende confirmed the development Monday through social media.

"Today I received a letter from President Morgan Tsvangirai informing me that my suspension as the MDC T National Deputy Treasurer General has been lifted and I should resume my duties immediately. I would like to first and foremost thank the President and all the organs of the Party and general Party membership and pledge to double my efforts and ensure that in 2018 we deliver change," said Hwende.

Hwende suspended in August after MDC-T deputy leader Thokozani Khupe was attacked by activists at the party's Bulawayo offices, which left her nursing some injuries.

Ms Khupe, Mr Bhebhe and Mr Moyo were attacked after they allegedly convened a meeting at the party's provincial offices in Bulawayo a day after the Alliance launch.

The trio are against the formation of an MDC Alliance in Matabeleland provinces as they believe the MDC-T can go solo in the region.

To save face, Mr Tsvangirai swiftly moved to suspend the party's national deputy spokesperson Ms Thabitha Khumalo and the deputy treasurer-general Mr Charlton Hwende and three members of the youth wing pending investigations.

The MDC-T suspended Bhebhe to quell a potential rebellion from Matabeleland structures against party leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai.

Bhebhe was found guilty of making reckless statements to the Press.
