The government has been urged to fast-track the vetting of former political detainees and war collaborators so that they are honoured for their contribution towards the success of the liberation struggle.

Speaking in Chipinge, One of the country's early nationalist and former political detainee who was first arrested in 1957, Joseph Kapeta said there is need to honour former political detainees of the liberation struggle and war collaborators for playing a significant role towards the liberation of the country.

He said Chipinge alone account for about 600 former liberation political detainees and a sizeable number of war veterans who should be vetted while the number of war collaborators who are yet to be vetted is relatively high.

He also urged government to mobilize funds not only to conduct the vetting process but money that will go towards their pensions as well.

Kapeta said vetting is a positive step towards recognising all those who made sacrifices towards liberation war.
