A bitter man from Maranda Village in Mwenezi will live to curse the day he started stalking his ex-lover as jealousy got the better of him and he stabbed the woman's lover to death.
Leoroyd Matoni (23) was arrested on murder charges after allegedly killing his ex-lover's boyfriend.
The incident might live to haunt Mercy Chuma because it happened right before her eyes.
Though Matoni disappeared after the incident, Chuma reported the matter to the police and he was arrested a few days later.
Appearing before Mwenezi magistrate Honesty Musiiwa, the accused was remanded in custody to 8 November.
The court heard that on 19 October around 7pm, the now deceased Accept Gumbo was with his girlfriend Mercy Chuma at Maranda Business Centre.
Gumbo then got into a shop leaving the woman standing outside.
Little did he know that someone was following them and while inside Matoni approached the woman and by the time he returned he found them together.
He then asked Matoni why he was standing with the woman and it resulted in a misunderstanding.
The bitter Matoni reportedly tripped him and when he fell to the ground, he took out a knife and stabbed him on the forehead and left side of the head and fled.
With the assistance of some good Samaritans they rushed Gumbo to Maranda clinic where he was referred to Neshuro Hospital. He died on arrival at the referral hospital.
The investigative officer opposed bail to be granted to the accused stating that he was a flight risk as he fled after committing the offence and might interfere with witnesses as they live in the same village.
