Victoria Falls set for city status

The 5 member commission which has been carrying out a week-long assessment to determine whether the resort town of Victoria Falls qualifies for a city status has concluded its mission with the final report expected to be handed over to the responsible minister next week.
The commission which was led by the principal director in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Ms Erica Jones will submit the findings and recommendations report to the responsible minister by Thursday next week.
Ms Jones thanked stakeholders who included the tourism industry officials, captains of industry, the residents and the municipality officials for their contributions during the assessment visit.
The commission was in the resort town following an application made by the municipality for the town to be considered for city status.
Victoria Falls which was accorded the special economic zone status this year is one of the country's premier tourist destinations.
Boasting of vibrant tourism industry, sound infrastructure including the upgraded Victoria Falls International Airport, the town has witnessed renewed interests by investors to invest in the tourism sector which is on a rebound.
