Mugabe wants return of death penalty

President Robert Mugabe has bemoaned the increasing cases of murder cases, calling for the return of the death penalty for offenders.
Mugabe made the remarks while concluding his speech during the burial of the late national hero, Don Muvuti at the National Heroes Acre in Harare this afternoon.
He said some people are killed for trivial issues and ritual purposes.
"Unonzwa kuti murume asvika ndokubvunza sadza kumukadzi wake, mukutaura imomo mukadzi wotobaiwa. Kufira sadza shuwa. Ini ndinoti death penalty ngaidzoke, VaMnangagwa vanoti ngatinzwei tsitsi, VaMphoko handisati ndanzwa pfungwa dzavo panyaya iyi. The President also called for an end to vices like rape and reliance on prophets, imploring church leaders to be honest and not to dupe people of their money.

Mugabe hailed the late Muvuti as a non-tribalist, whose focus was on the total independence of the country.

He the death of Muvuti is not just a loss to the family but the nation at large.
The body of the late national hero was this morning first taken to Stodart Hall in Mbare, where President Mugabe led mourners in the body viewing procession.
Muvuti died last week after battling with cancer for some time.
He is survived by his wife, Darknetty Deliwe Muvhuti, 8 children and 17 grandchildren.
