A primary school headmaster from Beatrice was recently slapped with a two-year jail term after being convicted of stealing $96 meant for a pupil's school fees.

The Chinoona Primary School headmaster, Archford Muringwa (49), has since approached the High Court seeking bail pending appeal following his conviction and sentence by Chitungwiza magistrate Yeukai Chigodora on October 24 this year.

According to court papers, Muringwa was found guilty of two counts of fraud, an offence he is said to have committed while he was still the deputy headmaster at Beatrice Primary School in 2016.

It is the state's case that on November 11 2016 Muringwa received $50 from Tinashe Jacob, who was paying for school fees and he receipted it only as $2 that had been paid for mango sales.

Muringwa is said to have used the same method on January 3 2017 after receiving another $50 from Natalie Govha for which he generated two receipts and gave one to the student and kept the other for the school records, which he latter indicated as another $2 for mango sales.
