The Aspirant Mthwakazi Republic Party legislator for Mberengwa West, Vincent Moyo  has rapped the traditional leaders (Chiefs) for abandoning their mandate to represented the people.

"We have heard an outcry from the villagers around Bhankwe ward (32) particularly the ones their kids are attending school at Vugwe Primary School," he said.

"I will take this opportunity to pass my condolences to the family and friends of Chief Bhankwe who passed away sometime this year."Sithi silahlakelwe lukhulu njengezakhamizi zakoBhankwe".

He said, however, sometime this year he applauded the community for  taking a stance in building their dilapidated school.

"Today the same villagers that should be honoured by the government for building a school, are receiving threats from the chairperson of the school they build who is taking them to chief Mazazathi, accusing them of failing to settle their debts, surprisingly enough (building fee). I have always questioned this, how do you request building fee from the community who are actually, the builders of that school?" he said.

"In this regard,it should be the chief who should defend the villagers as his people from any oppression from the government as his role is to defend the community that he is serving. Chiefs are there to identify problems within their jurisdiction and serve according to interest of the people not the other way round. Chiefs by nature of their jobs should be on the side of the people not the other way round, it is therefore uncalled for, for our people to be subjected to Chief courts over a matter that is beyond their control, where in most cases you are guilt right at your arrival, this affect the villagers by unnecessary lose of time and their resources."

Moyo said they end up loosing their possession like livestock to these chiefs and the debt at schools remain unsolved.

"Chiefs, chairpersons should be reminded that the shortage of money in Zimbabwe is national crisis and they should stop harassment of our  people," he said.

"We condemn the action of the Chief Mazazathi with the contempt it deserves. Stop what you are doing, stand for the people that is your role. Be advised! And stop it!"
