The Zimbabwe Communist Party secretary general Ngqabutho Mabhena has said the firing of Emmerson Mnangagwa as Vice President of Zimbabwe will not weaken the party at grass roots level.

Mnangagwa was fired from the party on Monday following accusations that he was fueling factionalism.

Grace Mugabe has been touted as the most possible successor in the matrix.

"The firing of ED Mnangagwa as Vice President will not weaken Zanu PF at grassroots level. Just ask former Vice President Mujuru. In Zanu PF, President Mugabe is the centre of power not the branches or membership. The only people who can resist the firing of Mnangagwa is the military (assuming he returns support)," said Mabhena.

"Outside the military, there is no threat. President Mugabe will soon roll out the Presidential Agricultural Scheme wherein grassroots Zanu PF supporters will be receiving farming inputs and just like Mujuru, Mnangagwa will be forgotten. The rolling out of the Presidential Agricultural Scheme will enable members of Zanu  PF Central Committee, Provincial leaders and others to loot the farming inputs."

He said assuming the military coup were to happen, people must understand that, a military coup might be progressive or reactionary.

"It becomes progressive if it seeks to advance the interests of the working class and peasants, the majority of whom are poor. It becomes reactionary, if the military were to declare a state of emergency, cancel the 2018 elections and ban political gatherings," he said.

"What is currently happening has nothing to do with the working class (including vendors ) peasants, but everything to do with the looting of our resources. Ours is to build a true revolutionary party of the working class and peasants."
