Zimbabwe has the capacity to become a regional information and communication technology hub following the establishment of an internet exchange point, deputy minister Win Mlambo has said.
Mlambo said the hosting of the regional Internet Exchange Point (IXP) is expected to leap-frog Zimbabwe to be the information hub for southern Africa.
He noted that if the big telecommunications operations and Internet Service Providers across the region connect to Zimbabwe, it will make the country the main hub for communication exchange within the region.
Zimbabwe won $200 000 African Union Commission tender in 2015, and a total of $50 178 has been used on the project and $56 716 has been committed for more equipment that has been ordered, and still to be delivered.
