A DANGAMVURA man appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Innocent Bepura facing physical abuse charges after he stabbed his ex-girlfriend who was spreading rumours that he was a wizard. Tobias Domboka (36) allegedly claimed that Hilda Chiruka (19) who was his ex-girlfriend was spreading malicious rumours about him to his wife, all because he had refused to marry her.
Domboka pleaded guilty to the charges as read in section 3 (1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act chapter 5:16. Prosecuting over the matter was Mr Fletcher Karombe. The public prosecutor told the court that on October 30, 2017 in Dangamvura, Chiruka was at home when the accused person arrived.
He then took her to his wife's house in Federation. Upon arrival, Domboka started shouting at the complainant accusing her of telling his wife of the infidelity between the two. Domboka went on to assault Chiruka with open hands twice on the face and pointed a kitchen knife on her chest. When he was asked why he acted violently, Domboka told the court that he was just angry with the rumours Hilda was spreading about him to his wife.
"Hilda is my ex-girlfriend and she is just acting jealously because I did not marry her and now she is spreading rumours about me being a cheat, a wizard and that made me angry" he said.
Mr Bepura told him to learn to solve disputes without violence and he was fined $60, failure to do so would result in 15 days imprisonment. The fine is to be paid by November 13, 2017.
