Former Vice-President Joice Mujuru's National People's party (NPP) has been taken to court over failure to pay $18 500 for 5 000 branded convention T-shirts supplied to the opposition party last year.
Kingsport Investments issued summons against the political party on November 1 this year, under case number HC10259/17, citing the party and ex-Zanu-PF MP David Butawu as respondents in the matter.
The NPP entered its appearance to defend on November 7 this year.
According to the court papers, Kingsport is demanding: "Payment of the sum of $18 500, being an amount due to the plaintiff (Kingsport) by the defendants (NPP and Butawu) jointly and severally one paying the other to be absolved, which amount is in respect of the supply of 5 000 branded convention T-shirts which were ordered by the defendants from the plaintiff and supplied on September 16, 2016."
The firm said NPP promised to settle the amount within 10 days of delivery, but despite demand, the party and Butawu had refused and/or neglected to pay the amount, prompting the firm to approach the court for recourse.
Besides claiming the principal amount, Kingsport further said it was also claiming interest at the prescribed rate from October 2016 to date of full payment, collection commission and costs of suit on the scale of attorney and client, if NPP decides to defend the litigation.
