An MDC official Descent Bajila has claimed that MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai and Zanu PF leader Robert Mugabe connived to appoint Ritha Makarau as Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Chairperson despite the fact that Tsvangiraiu was warned against the move.

"In 2012, Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe nicodemusly appointed Justice Rita Makarau ZEC Chairperson. Mugabe made sure that Tsvangirai is the one who makes the announcement. We warned that Makarau was not the rightful person to occupy that seat partly because of her history as a ZANU MP (1995-2000). We also argued that it was inappropriate for the two to appoint her without the inclusion of the other principal President Welshman Ncube. Lastly we indicated that there was something Mugabe was up to by making Tsvangirai announce the appointment," said Bajila.

"Public records have it that we were ridiculed as being jealous of the fact that Tsvangirai made the big announcement. It was said Makarau had repented from her ZANU past and would conduct herself impartially. Two years later, the same people who had earlier spoken of Makarau's repentance started writing the things we had earlier said about her in their project proposals to the donor community. Campaigns for Makarau to go were also launched by the same people who had earlier preached about her repentance."

"Today I warn that Mnangagwa will be worse than Makarau. Those who will toyi toyi for him tomorrow must leave room for that."
