Robert Mugabe's nephew, Patrick Zhuwao said the president and his wife, Grace, are "ready to die for what is correct" rather than step down.
Speaking from a secret location in South Africa, Mr Zhuwao told SABC news that Mugabe had hardly slept since the military took over but his health was otherwise "good".
Hundreds of thousands of people flooded the streets of capital Harare singing, dancing and hugging soldiers in an outpouring of elation at Mr Mugabe's demise, while others marched towards his residence.
Following protests in Harare calling for Robert Mugabe to step down, Zhuwao has said that Zimbabweans are being used by the military and Mnangagwa.
"Listen to the false humility and brotherly act.... my sister......how many Zimbabwean women and even pre-teen girls turned to prostitution just to survive while you lorded it and your nephews were showing off rolexes and the champagne lifestyle on instagram?" responded one YouTube user.
