Former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected in the country shortly for talks with President Mugabe, the outcome of which is expected to provide direction to the political events in the country.

Commander of the Defence Forces General Constantino Guvheya Chiwenga told a media briefing that there was contact between the President and former vice president Mnangagwa, who is expected in the country shortly. The briefing also discouraged parallel processes being done by other groups, which could jeopardize the talks between the two politicians.

"Thereafter the nation will be advised on the outcome of talks between the two."

The talks are expected to culminate in the reinstatement of Mnangagwa as the VP and to pave way for a possible dignified exit of President Mugabe. However, for this to be successful in the shortest possible time, there is need for Zanu PF to stop pursuing its impeachment process.

He added that President Mugabe had started the processes towards a definitive solution and roadmap for the country. He said that the Defence and Security Services remained seized with their operation, which has now been code named ‘Operation Restore Legacy.' "We are confident to take our beloved country out of its present circumstances and set it on the desired trajectory."

Gen Chiwenga also called on other players who are currently pursuing parallel processes; like the members of the ruling Zanu PF, the war veterans, opposition groups, students and generality of people to refrain from any action or activities that would threaten the peace, life and property of Zimbabwe.

"Students at the country's various institutions are encouraged to be calm and to proceed with their educational programmes as scheduled. They need to remember that one day of education lost is difficult to recover."

This comes after Zanu PF Information Secretary Simon Khaya Moyo said that the party would proceed to impeach President Mugabe after he did not meet the 12pm resignation ultimatum.

At its extraordinary meeting yesterday, the Central Committee of the ruling ZANU-PF party resolved that if President Mugabe did not resign before midday today, the party's chief whip should institute proceedings in Parliament for his "recall" for his impeachment in terms of section 97 of the Constitution.

Zanu PF has 249 out of a total current membership of 347 members of the Senate and the National Assembly combined but experts say that the process to impeach the President can take up to several weeks if not months.
