Zimbabwe's veteran opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai's supporters responded negatively to a twitter post which asked: "Why is Tsvangirai looking like Biltong."

Tsvangirai has colon cancer, which he received treatment for last year in Johannesburg. He had several rounds of chemotherapy. He recovered well, and the MDC said the cancer was caught early.

He suddenly became ill last month during his arduous programme of around-the-country negotiations to create an anti-Zanu-PF coalition ahead of next year's elections.

MDC spokesperson, Douglas Mwonzora said recently that it was better for Tsvangirai to seek medical treatment in South Africa because he could feel confident that he would not be harassed by Zimbabwe's state security agents.

Veteran MDC MP, Eddie Cross, was criticised by many leaders in the MDC when he wrote a column recently saying that Tsvangirai was seriously ill and that there were doubts he could lead the party in next year's elections.

Mwonzora said, "This is the most unkind comment I have read. At least Tsvangirai told everyone about his condition. Very few people can do that. If you take such pleasure in someone's illness then that's really tragic!"

Edmore Mashungu ‏thanked Mwonzora for his response saying, "Thank you bro Doug. Its so sad and painful to hear somebody takes joy in someone's illness. Many zimbo have lost unhu you find pple taking fotos at an accident scene instead of helping. Shame on us as a pple. Need to repent."

Hilda Ndawana said, "Nomatter how much difference we have politically that should not take our Ubuntu away. Tsvangirai is one of us and we cannot take pleasure in his illness. Thts insensitive!'

Langton‏ @tafadzwa73 said, "Tsvangirai is a father like your own father.Respect doesn't take anything. How do u feel after writtinh such hatred and evil words like that.Do u feel happy and intelligent. Iam sure some of these post will haunt you forever. The pain you put to Tsvangirai as a person his fmily"
