Zapu Deputy spokesperson Iphithule Maphosa has said they now demand President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the remnant of ZANU PF to publicly acknowledge that ZAPU is no longer party and signatory to the 1987 unity accord as of December 2008, process that was ratified by the 2009 convention at McDonalds Hall and congress of 2010 at ZITF.

"We demand the new president and his establishment acknowledge and respect the revived ZAPU structures, and always remember that the revival was necessitated by their and Mugabe's reneging on the same unity accord," he said.

"Also to the world outside ZAPU, we demand instant cease of commercializing the Gukurahundi subject. ZAPU must be heard telling her story but we note with sadness people making themselves spokespersons of ZAPU and victims of Mugabe's one party state madness."

He said this is while the media, whether deliberately or otherwise shun ZAPU and rushes to discuss the subject with those who did not suffer the massacres, at times with perpetrators themselves and those who continue to benefit from the mass purges and the marginalization that followed
