ZIMBABWE will not have any elections this year centrally to what Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai have been telling their supporters, a senior politician has said.

Addressing a Gwanda Agenda organised public meeting on Saturday, Prof Ncube who is the leader of one of the Movement for Democratic Change form actions and Industry and Commerce minister said there is a long way for Zimbabwe to have elections.

He added that elections will only be held in 2013.

"We can only have elections in 2013 because of the Copac and other processes.

"We might have a referendum in September this year after which the constitution will have to go through parliament and presidential assent.

"We further need to amend or laws like the electoral Act which will also have to introduce proportional representation," Prof Ncube said adding that the country has a lot of electoral processes that are mandatory to be done like voter registration and delimitation of constituencies.

Mugabe and Tsvangirai have been clamouring for elections this year.

Prof Ncube said in reference to Zanu PF: "There is a party that last year said elections were then, and they did not happen as we said no, That same party said elections are this year and again we are saying no, elections are in 2013," he said.
