Former ZBC presenter Eric Knight has said Zimbabwe is currently on the news for positive reasons for the first time after thirty seven years of Robert Mugabe's misrule.
"I like it. I like it when my country is on the News for once, for positive reasons. Zimbabwe for the past two weeks has not only been the talk of the town, but the talk of the world! At my workplace at Sky TV, constant headlines, sub headings running across the screens, images of sites and people associated with the country have been the order of the day for close to 2 weeks now," he said.
"I change channels, BBC the same, America's Fox News.. same story, ITV News its all Zimbabwe, CNN on 506 are talking abut Igwe's departure and ED coming in. Channel 514 the Arabian Al Jazeera are featuring Zim too! Newspapers, The Sun, The Mirror, The Independent, The Guardian and almost all UK 's mainstream papers and tabloids are all running different versions of what is happening in Zimbabwe, I like it."
"My workmates at Sky beginning to cunningly and anxiously attempt to read my mind and ask me one by one, I hope we are not about to see the back of you General. My answer is 'No comment!' We laugh about it."
He said at the weekend he meet with some British mates that he watch football with at their regular Sports Club, and they were talking about Zimbabwe.
"I am approached by an old man ironically called Eric who is about 60 to 70. Through eavesdropping he has picked it up that I m from Zimbabwe. He approaches me to tell me his sister is married to a Zimbabwean Black guy. He tells me he has been to Zimbabwe around the early 80s and how his brother in law introduced him to a wonderful food drink called Chibhukyu as he pronounces it, (Chibuku) and how he was taken to Rufaro Stadium one day to watch Dembare versus Highlanders. He tells me how he instantly became a Highlanders fan just to spite off his Muku-washer a staunch Dembare fan. He tells me how he misses those days. I like it!" he said.
"On Sunday I go to Church to give my time to my Maker, the Pastor preaches about not giving up and resilience, and mentions Zimbabwe as an example! I like it! I like it when I hear Boxing icon Anthony Joshua also talking about beautiful Zimbabwe and how he felt like crying after watching peaceful demonstrations in Harare on TV."
"I like it when I hear UK Foreign Affairs Minister Boris Johnson pledging to help Zimbabwe financially. I like it when China's President Mr Xi Jin ping says they are very much prepared and willing to work with Zim!"
He said the world loves Zimbabwe and urged people not to be fooled by prophets of doom and pessimists with a different agenda.
"The people that matter likes Zimbabwe and I like it. God loves our nation and trust me, we are not far from paradise Zimbabwe. Things are already happening whether you like it or not. But I like it, don't you? God bless Zimbabwe! God bless Africa!," he said.
