Harare's central business district (CBD) assumed a refreshing look this Tuesday as vendors heeded a call by the city council fathers for them to vacate illegal selling points and relocate to designated sites.
Despite resistance by a few, who were playing cat-and-mouse with law enforcement agencies, the majority of vendors who had been operating from Harare's pavements moved to designated areas.
Many of Harare's streets and pavements were clear and pedestrians applauded the move to relocate vendors to designated sites, saying it enables free movement of people and traffic.
Although the affected vendors applauded the move, they however said there is need for clear structures which govern their operations even in those designated sites.
Harare City Council Acting Town Clerk, Mrs Josephine Ncube said they are still registering vendors to allocate them designated sites for operations as they are working on establishing additional vending sites.
The operation, which the local authority is conducted in partnership with the law enforcement agencies is meant to guarantee safety, hygiene and promote lawful business conduct.
