A HARARE man, Ryane Nyakasaka (25) who masqueraded at a Central Intelligence Organisation operative and conned a Harare man of two vehicles after misrepresenting that the President's Office wanted to buy them for its staff yesterday appeared in court charged with theft of trust property and impersonating a public officer.
Nyakasaka was not formally charged when he appeared before regional magistrate Ms Fadzai Mthombeni who remanded him in custody to today for bail consideration.
The complainant is Mr Augustine Nyoni who is employed as an information records clerk at the Zimbabwe Open University.
Prosecutor Mr Sidwell Chinzete alleges that sometime in October last year Mr Nyoni flighted an advert to the effect that he was selling a Mazda truck.
He also advised his young brother Carlos that he was selling the vehicle. Carlos introduced Nyakasaka to Mr Nyoni.
It is alleged Nyakasaka masqueraded as a CIO operative and told him that his organisation wanted to buy vehicles for its personnel.
Mr Nyoni trusted Nyakasaka and gave him his vehicle after he told him that it should be first be assessed at CMED before any transactions were made, it is alleged.
