FOR assaulting her tenant's lover with a pot full of sadza over a misunderstanding on his HIV status, saw a Penhalonga woman being fined $50. Pretty Farai (25) pleaded guilty to the assault charges when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Miss Perseverance Makala last Thursday. In mitigation, Farai claimed that she had assaulted Enock Mwashita because of his incessant love advances at her while they were both married.
"My tenant is a widow. Mwashita abandoned his family to cohabit with the tenant. He would approach me asking for sexual favours whenever my husband and his girlfriend were away. Your Worship, his love advances frustrated me and I had had enough of it. I did not know his HIV status and he wanted to be intimate with me," she claimed.
Prosecuting, Mr Fletcher Karombe, said on November 15 at around 7pm, Mwashita visited his lover who is a tenant at Farai's homestead in Shamhu Village where they had a misunderstanding.
"Farai stated that her tenant was HIV positive, thereby denoting that Mwashita was already infected with the virus too. While the two were exchanging words, Farai picked a pot which was full of sadza from the fire and struck Mwashita on his head. He sustained a cut on his head, but was not medically examined because of financial constraints," said Mr Karombe.
Farai was ordered to pay $50 fine or risk 20 days imprisonment. The fine is supposed to have been paid in full by December 8 at Mutare Magistrates' Clerk of Court offices.
