A MARONDERA farm worker who picked up a dead warthog from the bush and skinned it was on Tuesday arraigned before magistrate Ignatius Mugova and was found him guilty of removing a dead animal without a permit.
Gabriel Chaweka (26) of Nolfork Farm pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $50 or 30 days' imprisonment for the offence.
According to court papers, sometime in August the accused and his friend were walking around the farm when they discovered a dead warthog before taking it to the farm compound.
Chaweka skinned the animal for consumption. However, other farm workers tipped the police, leading to his arrest.
The bush pig was valued at $1 000.
Tariro Shirichena represented the state.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old Murewa man committed suicide after his wife filed a police report following a domestic dispute.
Rinos Maruvu of Chigaramasimbe Village in Murewa could not stomach the move by his wife Mhurai Mhuka (26) to report him to the police following a misunderstanding that resulted in a fight.
According to sources, on December 1, Mhuka filed a police report and informed her husband about it. It is said that the now deceased asked for forgiveness from his wife, but in vain.
Maruvu then left the homestead at around 8pm and never returned. The following day, a villager Collen Hunda (46), who was herding cattle, heard the now deceased groaning from a nearby bush.
Hunda went to investigate and found Maruvu lying beside a Dimethoate 40EC poison bottle.
He alerted other villagers who then tried to assist Maruvu without success. The matter was reported at Musami Police Station who then took Maruvu to Murewa Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
