Zimbabwe Communist Party secretary general Ngqabutho Nicholas Mabhena has said it is known that the outcome of the 2018 elections will possibly be contested and there is a need for electoral reforms.

"Let me just make this clear, our call for the National Economic Dialogue as the Zimbabwe Communist Party, is not based on the outcome of an election. We know that , the outcome of the 2018 elections will be contested, and that will prolong the suffering of the people of Zimbabwe.

"While it is critical that we hold a free and fair elections, at the moment, the political environment does not allow such," Mabhena said.

"So, what then must we do in the next seven months? We must organise our production on farms, re-engage the International Community particularly the BRICS countries as we rebuild our economy.

"We can not as the Zimbabwe Communist Party call on the United States of America to maintain its policy on Zimbabwe.

"We are calling on the Zimbabwe government, progressive political parties and civil society to open a dialogue on how to build our economy.

"We do not agree with those who want us to only pay attention to the economy after the electoral reforms are implemented while they benefit from donor funds with the majority of Zimbabweans going to bed on empty stomachs."
