THE ongoing voter registration mobilisation campaign by the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) and the Elections Resource Centre (ERC) has moved a notch up as minibuses have been ferrying prospective registrants to nearby registration centres.

During the door-to-door campaigns and roadshows held in Kuwadzana and Dzivarasekwa in Harare on November 7, 2017, the vehicles spent the day ferrying those who wanted to be registered as voters to the nearest registration centres.

Most of those, who benefitted from the free transport had also been battling with the issue of proof of residence, but were lucky to be assisted by commissioners of oaths at the one-stop service roadshows.

Since the beginning of the voter mobilisation, ZimRights has assisted 9732 people with affidavits for proof of residence.

Among the beneficiaries of the transport service to registration centres were elderly people who struggle to walk and those with no money to pay for kombis. On Monday, the civil society organisations started a voter mobilisation blitz, which comprises of roadshows, flash mobs and door-to-door campaign teams, targeting the fourth phase of the BVR blitz being conducted by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

ZEC voter educators have also been taking the opportunity availed by civil society platforms to address people on the requirements of voter registration and responding to questions from the public.
