SUNDAY 'Mhofu' Chidzambwa's appointment as Warriors substantive coach has been received with mixed reactions.
The decision was announced by ZIFA on Wednesday and fans took to social media registering their views.
The former ZPC Kariba coach's huge task ahead is the African Cup of Nations qualifiers campaign, which was kick-started by Norman Mapeza with a win over Liberia.
Below are some of the comments by Warriors fans on social media.
"Hahaha ndaseka one year performance based when the Warriors only play 3 matches the whole year, how then do you assess his performance pa 3 games? He had his chance zvakapfuura currently anga achingorohwa ku ZPC momupa basa renyika," Taps K Chidziva.
"I don't agree with you. I think Mhofu is one of the best coaches in Zimbabwe according to his achievements," @Tendaichinzou3.
"He is no longer the best. Come 2019 we will not be at Afcon," @GeorgeMandebvu3
"Hahaha typical Zifa. Mhofu failed with the national team before, he has just been relieved of his duties as ZPC Kariba coach due to poor results," @Tawanda29.
"We re-cycle and re-cycle and re-cycle and re-cycle…this is great in environmental ethics but in sport, politics, economics and life in general innovation and fresh ideas are the stuff of progress! Please recycle your waste not personnel," @QueensDicta.
H-Metro spoke to some local coaches and football analysts to give their views.
Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa believes Mhofu is the right man for the job.
"I would want to believe that he is the right man with all his experience in Zimbabwean football. I have worked with him as my coach and as his assistant at Cosafa where he proved that he is a great coach.
"He is a motivator and a much respected figure.
"Some would want to argue about the ZPC Kariba results but those who know football will tell you that there are a number of factors that affect coaches. You can't compare club level and national team level. Take a clue from Cosafa, knowing Mhofu as defensive, the team scored many goals. You saw the way Ocean (Mushure) and Ovidy Karuru played," said Mutasa.
Football commentator and analyst Charles 'CNN' Mabika said fans against the decision have a right to give their views but supports the decision.
"When you hire somebody, you consider a track record; Mhofu brings a wealth of experience.
"I understand some are arguing ZIFA should have gone a younger coach but I am sure they are going to assemble a technical team good enough to work on that," said Mabika.
On Mhofu's failure at ZPC Kariba and his subsequent, CNN said, "There were lots of hands at play. Well, there are arguments that Mhofu should've delivered a top four finish but I don't think that will affect the performance at national level.
"We have seen coaches being fired at clubs and deliver at national teams, the immediate example is Roberto Martinez. He was fired at Everton but look what he has done with Belgium. It all depends on the set up. So this is now water under the bridge, Mhofu is not coaching Warriors for his family but for us so let's rally behind him," said Mabika.
Football agent and analyst, Denford Mutashu, said though Mhofu is a legendary figure in Zimbabwean football, it was good to consider new blood.
"He remains a legendary figure, he proved to be equal to the task on a number of occasions.
"I have spoken with a number of players and coaches after the announcement and they think it's good but we would wish to have new blood. We are looking at coaches like Lloyd Chitembwe to be given a chance. So the fans had their expectations and thus the reaction on social media," said Mutashu.
"And the argument that he failed at ZPC Kariba is misplaced, let's rate him at national team, what he did before because the conditions are different.
"Look at what he has done at COSAFA, converting Mushure to a goal scoring player and working with guys like Jameson Mukombwe from Black Rhinos and deliver, kudos to him.
"But this again might be erased by the subsequent poor performance in the CHAN qualifiers campaign, knocked out by minnows like Namibia" said Mutashu.
Traingle coach Taurai Mangwiro was not comfortable on commenting on ZIFA's decision but said their duty is give the needed support.
"As coaches we don't have a say on who is to be appointed but we just give the support to the man given the task.
"What I can say is just that ZIFA should take Mhofu to refresher courses so that he moves with the trends and that has been always our argument with (Kalisto) Pasuwa.
"I believe a coach gets better and wiser with time and we just need to give him the support," said Mangwiro.
