Chombo gets relief

FORMER finance minister Ignatius Chombo was yesterday freed from custody after a Harare magistrate ruled the accused is bound by bail conditions set out in his previous case.
In his previous case, number 11633/17, Chombo was ordered to deposit $5000, surrender his passport, report thrice a day at Marlborough police, not to interfere with witnesses and surrender title deeds of his house among other conditions.
Chombo is facing corruption and bribery allegations.
Representing the accused, Professor Lovemore Madhuku submitted that his client can be released on previous conditions, which the State led by Edmore Nyazamba confirmed.
Magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa ruled that Chombo on the new charges, Chombo be bound by bail conditions of case number 11633/17.
He will be back in court on January 8.
