A rival suitor fatally stabbed a Beitbridge man on Christmas Eve at Nuli Business Centre following a misunderstanding.

The suspect is still at large and police are yet to release the name of the deceased.

The Herald reports that the duo were among several revellers that were expectantly celebrating on December 24 at the business centre.

Witnesses said the suspect confronted the now deceased for wooing his woman.

The confrontation later degenerated into a fist fight, which resulted in the suspect drawing a knife and stabbing his rival in the stomach.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said the victim was rushed to Beitbridge District Hospital, where he died on Boxing Day.

"We are investigating a case of murder, where one person was stabbed in the stomach following an unknown dispute," he said.

"At the same time, we want to urge members of the public to desist from resorting to violence during arguments.

"They risk their lives and prosecution."

Meanwhile, in a related incident, two brothers were seriously injured during a gang fight involving 15 men at Lutumba Business Centre on Christmas Day.

It is understood that the fight was precipitated by a year-long dispute, which dates back to the 2016 festive season.

Sources at Beitbridge District Hospital said the two brothers have since been discharged after they opted to seek further treatment in South Africa where they are based.
