Construction of the US$1 billion Harare-Beitbridge-Chirundu Highway is expected to start within two months, Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo has said.
Dr Gumbo said engineers were performing pre-commencement works on the Harare-Beitbridge section.
Government engaged Austrian firm Geiger International for the project under a 25-year build-operate-transfer arrangement.
"This is one project that is going to start within the 100 days that we have been given (to perform) by His Excellency. So, by March, there abouts, you will see people on the road.
"I have already said people are on the road. They are surveying, doing designs and demarcating the road. What you want to see are graders, which you will see very soon."
Dr Gumbo said the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority's refusal to allow Geiger International to bring old equipment into the country had delayed works. New equipment is now coming from China.
