Mudzuri is acting president til Tsvangirai's return

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) Vice President Elias Mudzuri is standing in for his ailing president Morgan Tsvangirai after he left for his routine medical check-up in the neighbouring South Africa on Friday.

MDC-T presidential spokesperson and Director of Communication Luke Tamborinyoka confirmed the case and said Tsvangirai is expected in the country next week.

"In the President's absence, Vice President Elias Mudzuri is the acting President while the other two Vice Presidents will be in charge of their tasks, with VP Khupe in charge of party administration while VP Chamisa will continue to drive the MDC alliance and the party's policy program" said Tamborinyoka.

Questioned on whether his President will come and meet his people in campaigning for the harmonised election Tamborinyoka said he has a team that is on the ground for him and he is always with the people.

"Our President is always with the people though we do not sound a horn about it, but for the time being we have a strong team that is campaigning for him.

"He will be back in the country any time next week", added Tamborinyoka.
