Former Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Jason Machaya has been released from custody after being granted $1 000 bail by Gweru magistrate Ms Mildred Matuvi.

Machaya who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office during his tenure as resident minister was remanded to February the 2nd 2018.

In granting the bail, Ms Matuvi ordered the accused to reside at his Kwekwe farm, report to Kwekwe Central Police Station every Monday, and never to visit the Midlands government complex.

Charges against Machaya are that he usurped powers by intentionally allocating state land totalling 17 799 stands to land developers and entities which the state claims was not his function but that of the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.
