A Goromonzi man (82), Fanuel Mugano is on the run after he allegedly killed his wife on suspicion that she was having an extra-marital affair.
Mashonaland East acting provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Tendai Mwanza said Mugano allegedly committed the murder last Tuesday.
It is understood Mugano and his wife, Ruth (44), often argued amid accusations of infidelity.
The senior citizen allegedly left home at around 5pm. He later returned armed with an axe, ostensibly hoping to catch his wife with her alleged lover.
He, however, found her sleeping beside their eight-year-old twin daughters. He allegedly struck her with the axe in the head, killing her instantly.
"The issue of bed-hopping was at the centre of a long-standing dispute between the two," said Sgt Mwanza. The couple's 10-year-old son reportedly witnessed the alleged crime and alerted neighbours, who, in turn, approached the police.
Sgt Mwanza urged members of the public to resolve disputes amicably or engage professional counsellors.
