Govt urges local communities to form co-operatives

Government has urged local communities to complement government efforts in reviving the economy through forming co-operatives.
The call was made by the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development, Sithembiso Nyoni during the launch of the United Nations Year of Co-operatives held in Harare.
Nyoni said local communities can contribute immensely to the country's economic revival by coming together to form co-operatives.
United Nations Development Programme's Economic Advisor, James Wakiaga, who spoke to ZBC News during the same event said co-operatives are also a means of alleviating poverty.
The UN has declared 2012 the International Year of Cooperatives with the theme, "Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World", in line with its efforts to create business opportunities within communities.
