The Zimbabwe Teachers Association has launched an Eli-Mobile project that will see members get motorcycles on credit. The project was launched in Bindura yesterday where 39 teachers received the motorcycles.
The project, to be spread to all provinces, will benefit mostly rural teachers across Zimbabwe.
Zimta president Mrs Tendai Chikowore said the move will ease transport problems for the educators.
She said Zimta entered into a strategic partnership with a local company Eli Mobile to provide the motorcycles.
"We have targeted teachers on the outskirts of main cities because these have been hardest hit by transport problems.
"There is need to restore teachers' dignity by affording them the opportunity to get reliable transport for them to go to work."
She said the motorcycles were the "beginning" of more things to come in terms of restoring status of the teaching profession."
"Not only are they reliable but they are also cheap to maintain, they also have a strong back up service from local suppliers," she said.
