A journalist with Zimbabwe private media house â€" Alpha Media Holdings - Moses Matenga was on Wednesday night nabbed at the controversial Chiadza diamond fields after alert security guards found a suspicious stone tucked in his wallet.

Matenga was detained over night at Marange Resources diamond fields Preliminary reports say Matenga who writes extensively on MDC-T in the NewsDay failed to give a satisfactory response when interrogated. "It was embarrassing on the part of the travelling journalist" said one reporter who is part of the Civil society touring the mines.

"The pompous young fellow thought he had managed to evade the tight security checks at the mines and make quick cash. However, he forgot that there are hundreds of surveillance camera's monitoring all inches of the mine.

Sources last night said Matenga at one stage said "that he carried the stone with him wherever he goes".

Matenga who hardly has a two years experience in journalism was dispatched to be part of the touring crew.

He is suspected to be a card carrying member of MDC-T.

However, all visiting people at the highly fortified fields are told not to pick anything from the ground.

They have to call in gauds to do that.

In December last year, more than 30 journalist from all media houses toured the mines but all adhered to the instructions.
