Zimbabwe's main opposition party MDC-T has thanked government for assistance rendered during the death of the founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Government accorded Tsvangirai who was also Zimbabwe's Prime Minister during the Government of National Unity which spanned from 2009 to 2013, a state assisted funeral.

Thanking government on behalf of his party, Nelson Chamisa who was recently confirmed as MDC-T substantive leader said the party appreciates the gesture extended by the state.

"We want to thank you for putting aside party differences and recognizing the role played by Morgan Tsvangirai," Chamisa said in parliament.

"We want to thank you for everything," he said.

Chamisa said unity shown during the death of Tsvangirai must extend to all facets of life.

Tsvangirai died of cancer of the colony at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Johannesburg on 14 February.

He was buried at his rural Humanikwa village in Buhera, Manicaland Province.
