Bulawayo Provincial Affairs minister Angeline Masuku has accused city councillors of stifling investment through red tape.

Masuku made the allegations, while officiating at a streetlights handover ceremony in Bulawayo on Tuesday.

Streetlights installed along George Silunduka Avenue and 6th Avenue were donated by local taxi operators under the Express Private Car Commuter Services (Expriccos).

"The councillors, who are here should take the message to council. I am disappointed because what the investors are saying is very bad. The investors just told me that it is not easy doing business in council areas, as they are being referred from one office to the other, when they want to do business," she said.

Masuku also claimed that a lot of projects in the city have failed to take off due to bureaucracy at the MDC-T-run council.

"Many projects should have commenced as way back as 2012, but up to now, nothing tangible has been done. I once talked to the mayor [Martin Moyo] about the issue and blame was put on higher offices," she said.

Masuku said that the city needs investors, who can revive industry.

"We should try to make it easy and possible for those who want to come and help us in reviving the city's and let us not shut investors out," she said.
Masuku also commended Expricoss for rehabilitating the street lights.

Expriccos chairperson, Mpikelelo Khumalo said the association restored the streetlights after realising that many of their clients were being robbed during the night because of poor street lighting.
