MDC-T MP in marriage of convenience scam

MDC-T legislator for Dzivaresekwa Evelyn Masaiti's bid to be joined in a suspicious holy matrimony with her Cameroonian lover who is ten years younger was blocked by the courts.

 Masaiti, a former deputy Women's Affairs minister, is aged 47 while Prorais Pentecote Ayina is 37.

 Masaiti stays in Harare but decided to travel all the way to Masvingo to wed.

Masaiti approached Masvingo provincial magistrate Jabulani Mzinyathi seeking to be granted permission to be married to Prorais Pentecote Ayina .

Prorais Pentecote Ayina was a first time visitor to Zimbabwe. It is not clear how they met.

However, he failed to meet the set requirements which demand foreigners to produce original certificate of clearance from their home countries.

Ayina also produced scanned documents when the Marriages Act stipulated that foreigners should produce original documents, which Mzinyathi quickly detected.

He refused to marry the two.

Several Zimbabwe women are being used by foreigners to enter into fake marriages to facilitate their stay in the country.
