TRANSFORM Zimbabwe (TZ)'s inaugural elective congress kicks off in Harare today, where the opposition party is expected to launch its policy document ahead of this year's general elections.

TZ, which has its roots in the Christian community and is a partner in the MDC Alliance, was formed in December 2013.

Party president Jacob Ngarivhume is expected to comfortably retain his position at the two-day congress, where new leadership will be elected to replace the interim one appointed at the convention that birthed TZ.

In an interview yesterday, Ngarivhume said about 2 500 delegates drawn from various stakeholders, including the church and other political parties mainly from MDC Alliance, were expected to attend the event.

"This is our inaugural congress and there are three main objectives that we hope to achieve. This is an elective congress to have members of the national executive leaders for TZ for the next five years. We will also elect our provincial leaders for our two provinces. This will be done on the first day," he said.

"We will also launch our policy outline, which we have named IGNITE, and we will also present what will do as a party."

Ngarivhume said the congress was expected to review the party's participation in the electoral pact, MDC Alliance.

He said the party would formally ratify the decision as a congress because previously, the decision was made by the national executive.

"Congress will also review the participation of Transform Zimbabwe in the MDC Alliance. When the decision to participate in the alliance was made, it was made by our national executive, but it is now time to take the issue to congress because it is the highest decision making body.

"We will have to endorse and ratify the decision," he said.
